Production start on Knarr

The “Petrojarl Knarr” FPSO vessel has started production from the Knarr field in the northern North Sea.

Knarr is located 120 kilometres off the coast and was discovered in 2008. The field is estimated to contain recoverable reserves of around 80 million boe.

The FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) has been leased from Teekay Corporation and has a production capacity of 63 000 boe per day, and storage capacity of 80 000 boe.

“The start of production from the Knarr field will add substantially to our production portfolio. It also represents an important milestone in Idemitsu’s growth strategy on the NCS”, says managing director Teruyuki Takahashi.

Additional drilling in the license area is ongoing, in the hope of extending production life further.

Idemitsu holds a 25 % share in Knarr, with fellow partners Wintershall Norge (20 %) and DEA Norge AS (10 %). The operator is BG Norge.
